Reiki Energy Healing
Reiki is a Japanese word can be translated to ‘life-force energy”. Reiki is a form of spiritual healing that involves a trained practitioner holding the hands above the body. Many people can attest to the healing powers of the practice to help with a variety of ailments, physical, emotional and spiritual. Constantin Istrate is a Level III Reiki Master and is available for consultation.
Doulas (Professional Labor Companions)
Doula is a Greek word meaning “woman servant”; she is a professional labor companion. She provides emotional support, physical comfort and advocacy for the woman during her labor and immediate postpartum period.
Doulas are not medical providers and do not make medical decisions. Instead they work collaboratively with the woman’s family and her care provider to help her reach her birthing goals and have a safe, satisfying and empowering birth experience. A Midwife and a Doula are a great birth team!
Certified Lactation Educators
Certified Lactation Educators (CLE) are certified in lactation education through one of several organizations. Classes may be in group setting or one-on-one. They are trained to provide counseling for typical, normal problems of breastfeeding such as engorgement and sore nipples and low milk supply.
Topics that they may teach are:
- How the breasts make milk
- How to know if baby’s getting enough milk
- Pumping and storage of breastmilk
- Dealing with common problems such as low milk supply, inverted nipples, fussy baby, engorgement, mastitis, and more
- Hands-on support with positioning for breastfeeding
Board-Certified Lactation Consultants
A Lactation Consultant is a health professional who specializes in the clinical management of breastfeeding. Lactation consultants commonly work in hospitals, physician or midwife practices, public health programs, and private practice. They are certified through the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE). Distinct from Lactation Educators, they work with mothers and infants who are experiencing some challenges with breastfeeding such as nursing with implants or after breast surgery, babies with cleft palates or tight frenulums, breastfeeding premature or sick babies, breastfeeding of multiples, to name a few.
